Jez Butterworth’s “Parlour Song” Extends Through April 6, 2008

Atlantic Theater Company is proud to announce a one week extension of the world premiere production of Jez Butterworth’s new play PARLOUR SONG, directed by Neil Pepe.

Due to high ticket demand following strong reviews, the limited engagement originally scheduled through March 29th, 2008 has been extended through Sunday, April 6th, 2008.

PARLOUR SONG, starring Chris Bauer (HBO’s “True Blood,” CBS’ "Numb3ers"), Jonathan Cake (Almost An Evening, Cymbeline) and Emily Mortimer (Lars and the Real Girl, Match Point), began previews February 15th and officially opened March 5th, 2008 Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).

Oliver Award® winning playwright Jez Butterworth (Mojo) takes on domestic paranoia in PARLOUR SONG, which explores what happens when two ordinary people discover they hate who they have become. Butterworth reveals a world where all is not what it seems, when a demolitions expert (Bauer) suspects his wife (Mortimer) is stealing from him.

PARLOUR SONG marks both the return of the celebrated British playwright and screenwriter to Atlantic, where his plays Mojo and The Night Heron were both produced, and his first world premiere at the company.

THE CRITICS HAVE SAID:

“Expertly acted. The physical tension generated by the three performers is irresistibly theatrical.  So is the show’s sad, sensual evocation of the darkness within comfortable, well lighted rooms.  Now this is adult entertainment” - Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“Butterworth writes strong, pungent dialogue and the banter is eminently theatrical.  Neil Pepe directs with a sure sense of the play’s rhythms and the cast rides them for all they are worth. - Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press

“Sly and engaging.  A stylish comic drama that pays homage to the language of David Mamet and the brutal domestic mysteries of Harold Pinter while maintaining its own amusing voice.” - Linda Winer, Newsday

“A fantastic cast supports a strong story.” Engrossing characters…sharp and carefully crafted scenes.” - Joe Dziemianowicz, The Daily News

“First rate acting” - Michael Sommers, The Star-Ledger

“A superb cast.” - Marilyn Stasio, Variety

Atlantic’s hit world premiere of Academy Award® winning film maker Ethan Coen’s (Fargo, No Country for Old Men) Almost An Evening, staged by Neil Pepe, recently concluded a sold out limited engagement at Atlantic Stage 2. Almost An Evening will transfers to The Bleecker Street Theatre with previews beginning Thursday, March 20th, 2008.

PARLOUR SONG plays Tuesday through Friday at 8p, Saturday at 2p & 8p, Sundays at 3:00p.

Week of March 31 schedule:  Monday and Tuesday, dark. Wednesday – Saturday at 8p, Matinees on Saturday 2p and Sunday at 3p. Final performance Sunday, April 6 at 7p.

Atlantic Theater Company at the Linda Gross Theater is located at 336 West 20th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues).  Tickets are $55.00 and available by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200 (ticketcentral.com).
